Outshoot Slapshot Shawn

After games against the Illinois Section, MOVITE Section, NCITE Section and Wisconsin Section teams, "Slapshot" Shawn has been far from perfect, allowing a total of 168 goals! The leading scores, as of May 11th, have Amy Canfield form the Wisconsin Section's team as the number one scorer. More shots on goalie Shawn will be available during the 2017 MWITE District Conference in Madison, June 18-20. Be sure to try your hand at taking shots at "Slapshot" Shawn, a hall of fame candidate for the ITEKHA (ITE Knee Hockey Association) and win a chance for a free registration to the 2017 ITE International Annual Meeting in Toronto. About Slapshot Shawn:
During ITE section meetings in the Midwestern District leading up to the district's conference in Madison, Wisconsin, and during the 2017 Midwestern District Conference, individuals will have an opportunity to outshoot "Slapshot" Shawn! Individuals who want to try to score on "Slapshot" Shawn again, can do so for a contribution of $5 for each additional 30-second shooting period, with the proceeds going to the MWITE District Student Activities Fund. 2018 ITE Annual Meeting to be Held in Minneapolis!

ITE Headquarters has announced that the 2018 ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibit will be held in Minneapolis. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the 2018 Midwestern District Meeting, with NCITE being the host section. The venue will be the Minneapolis Hilton, and the dates will be August 20-23, 2018. Please stay tuned for details to come!

ITE Networking Survey

The recent survey by ITE revealed that networking is one of the top priorities that benefits our members. In order to gain more knowledge about potential networking events, a brief 10 question survey about networking opportunities in your chapter/section/district/board is being administered. The survey is due by Friday, June 24, 2016, and the results will be summarized and presented to the ITE International Board. Also, feel free to forward it to other members who you think could give some valuable feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey.

This course will use presentations that involve lessons learned, best practices, and case studies to gain and strengthen knowledge in the following areas:

  1. Roundabout Planning and Site Selection
    • Intersection control evaluation
    • Where not to use roundabouts
    • The emerging FHWA ICE process
    • Examples of different types of reports
    • Incorporating safety and life cycle costs as a part of these reports
    • System considerations (signals and roundabouts)
    • ADA considerations
  2. Roundabout Analysis and Software in the Design Process (ARCADY, SIDRA, Synchro, and Highway Capacity Manual)
    • Learn capacity and basic sizing techniques for roundabouts, including calibration to local conditions with a class problem
    • Review types of capacity models - analytical - simulation - empirical
    • Introduced to ARCADY, SIDRA, Synchro, and Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) techniques to gain skills in analyzing roundabout capacity for developing layouts and predicting the effects of modifying designs.
  3. Wrap up Question and Answer session to discuss where agencies currently are and what their next steps are.

Mark Lenters, P.E. Mark Lenters is the Service Group Manager for GHD Inc. For the past 15 years, Mr.Lenters has focused his professional engineering practice on modern roundabouts. He is a leading engineer in this era of the expanding use of roundabouts in North America.His work covers all aspects of policy, planning, design, public outreach, and research in roundabouts.He provides on-call design review and standards for numerous DOT's and local agencies. He served on the review panel for the 2010 FHWA Roundabout Guide; is a vice chair of the ITE Roundabouts Committee; and is a member of the TRB Roundabout Committee. In addition to his technical expertise, Mr. Lenters is a highly rated instructor, having conducted roundabout design and software-based design courses since 2002.
